Learn More About Dr. Maddie Li’s Story
With Dr. Li, her goal with each patient goes well beyond giving them straighter and more attractive teeth. She strives to help people gain a new level of confidence and comfort through her work, which is why she goes to such lengths to personalize her approach. Before you have a chance to meet her in person, you can learn a little more about her background and what brought her into orthodontics below.
Why She Became an Orthodontist
Dr. Li underwent jaw surgery as a teenager, an experience she says was “empowering and life-changing.” It was what first sparked her interest in orthodontics because she wanted to be able to improve people’s lives in the same manner, and that passion followed her through school and is still with her today.
Where She Studied Dentistry & Orthodontics
Dr. Li began her collegiate career by earning dual degrees in biochemistry and economics at Rice University, graduating cum laude. She went on to attend the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine for her DMD, and she stayed there to obtain her specialty certificate in orthodontics.
A highly decorated student who made the Dean’s List all four years of dental school, Dr. Li also received the Jerome H. Sklaroff Award during her residency as well as the AADR/SCADA Research Award. Further accolades included recognition for her outstanding achievements in orthodontic research, clinical research, and community work.
What She Likes to Do Outside of the Orthodontic Office
Originally from Vancouver and fully fluent in both English and Chinese, Dr. Li is married and likes to spend her free time playing board games with her husband, skiing, playing tennis, and going on walks with her Golden Retriever.
